Nicholas Berube, known creatively as Nicolás Rey, (b. Tegucigalpa, Honduras) is a photographer, writer, and filmmaker based in the D.C. area.

He was part of the first graduating class of Pace University’s BFA Film, Television, Voice-Over & Commercial major. Nicolás has also received an Associate of Art in English Writing from Bucks County Community College, where he's also studied Photography and Business.

His photographic journey began in 2016 in the Philadelphia runway fashion scene. He’s since had opportunities to work one-on-one with actress Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries), actor Brett Gray (Netflix’s On My Block), and musician Mikey Way (My Chemical Romance), as well as prominent civil right’s figures such as Angela Davis, Cornel West, and Michelle Alexander.

Nicolás shoots primarily in digital and 35mm film. Collections of his work were selected for display in the Hicks Art Gallery in 2022 and 2023, including his Kensington, Philadelphia street photography series.

Some of Nicolás’ other accolades include: Penland Prize for writing (2021), Bucks County Poet Laureate Finalist (2022), inaugural MLK Dream Builder Award & commendation by Pennsylvania State Senate (2022). Additionally, short film projects he’s had a hand in have received laurels from the New Jersey Film Festival (2022) and the New Hope Film Festival (2024); in 2023 he worked on the production side of the pilot episode of PBS’s Albie’s Elevator.
